Bring On the Tips!

Hello friends! I am in need of some travel tips, and I thought what better way to get some than to poll the internets!

Henley last summer at the beach. I can't wait to see her play this year!

We are leaving in a little over a week for Hawaii and will be there for 10 days. I am so excited about this vacation, and at the same time a little anxious to be going with an 18 month old. This will be Henley's first time flying. We went to the beach last summer with my family, but she was only 9 months old, so things were a little different then, plus we drove.

I would love to hear your tips and tricks for traveling on a long flight with a toddler. I am also a lot anxious about her ears on the flights. Henley has had a number of ear infections in the past 5 months. She is currently clear, but I just worry about whether the flying will bother her ears or if she'll get an ear infection while we're there. She tends to hide them very well until it hurts really bad. Any thoughts on that would be welcome as well.

No tip is too small...I need them all!!

I can't wait for this year's family picture! That is if we can get Henley to be still for long enough!

  1. So fun! We just flew to California with our two girls. Ezra has flown before at different ages but the older she got the tougher in some ways. Not sure if she will be a lap child or not (assuming so). If at all possible get the bulkhead seat so she can sit on to ground and play with toys. I went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of new little toys and took one out every time she got bored. Not sure your stance on the iPad but we put some of her fave shows and had that as well. She was pretty excited about the plane and looking out the window for the first while so that was great. Also- SNACKS. We brought all kinds. New things, stuff she normally doesn't get to eat etc. also apples are grey for popping ears. We give her a whole apple and she chomps on it during takeoff and landing etc. we never had any problems. Hope this helps!! And enjoy Hawaii!

  2. We fly with Hayes (15 months) often. We bring books, a loaded snacklebox (look it up on Pinterest, they are great) blankets for naps, and pacis for ears (the sucking on it is great for opening their ears). If he is asleep for takeoff or landing, I massage his ears to hopefully keep them from hurting (usually works). If Henley doesn't take a paci, pack a water bottle with a sippy top or a sippy cup works too and have her drink during takeoff and landing. And lastly, we let him watch maybe one children's episode or play one kids game on the iPad when we are desperate :) good luck! Try not to be anxious because it always works out!
